A fine Attic black-figure lekythos with a tapering body, narrow neck, and high-arched handle, decorated with a mythological scene interpreted as an episode from Homer’s Iliad. The central register shows a four-horse chariot in motion, the horses rendered in dynamic stride. A bearded charioteer in long chiton holds the reins tightly, his posture tense with exertion. Behind him stands the goddess Athena, identifiable by her crested helmet and the aegis with gorgoneion across her chest, gesturing forward as she urges him on.

The composition suggests divine support in a heroic or martial contest, possibly referencing the funeral games of Patroklos or another mythic race scene from the Iliad. Decorative borders of dotted rosettes and tongues frame the scene, with added white used for details on the garments and chariot.
