A Cypriot Terracotta Pilgrim Flask, ca. 500 BCE
This object qualifies for free USA shipping and a flat rate fee of $75 if shipping internationally.
A small, circular-bodied pilgrim flask with twin vertical loop handles and short flaring neck rising from a narrow cylindrical throat. The flattened body is decorated on both sides with concentric circles in dark slip, radiating from a central boss. Additional banding encircles the shoulder and the rim. Such flasks were used to carry perfumed oils or sacred liquids and served as portable votive offerings associated with temple pilgrimages. A most charming example.
