From the time of the first cities, this finely carved rectangular stamp seal is an exceptional example of early Near Eastern artistry. Carved from black steatite, the seal is trapezoidal in form, with sides that taper gently to resemble a low gable, which is possibly inspired by early architectural forms. On one side, the seal features a winged feline or griffin, a powerful mythological creature that blends the features of a lion with bird-like wings. The opposite side presents a stylized bird with wings outstretched in a heraldic pose. The head is turned in profile, and the wings rise sharply, filled with fine parallel incisions to denote feathers. The tail fans out beneath the body in a radiating pattern, enhancing the symmetry and visual impact. Above the bird's back is a circular rosette composed of a central boss surrounded by raised dots, possibly representing a sun symbol or floral motif, which suggests a cosmic or divine context. The seal is drilled horizontally for suspension, indicating it was likely worn as an amulet and used in personal and/or ceremonial contexts.

This seal was most likely used in administrative or ritualistic activities, employed to stamp clay or other materials for identification, ownership, or ceremonial purposes. The winged feline or griffin, a symbol of power and protection, combined with the bird motif, suggests a rich blend of symbolic imagery, possibly tied to early myth-making or elite symbolism in nascent urban societies.
