This exquisite jewel, once an ancient earring, has been sensitively adapted for wear as a pendant. Fashioned in high-karat gold, it is set with a hand-carved, drop-shaped cabochon of banded agate, its natural strata of warm brown, cream, and black creating a striking visual effect. The stone is framed by an elaborate openwork mount composed of delicately spiraled gold wirework that forms an intricate, foliate frame, both balanced and elaborate. Below is a freely suspended drop-shaped bead that enhances both the movement and visual impact of the piece.

Such ornaments, highly prized by the Roman aristocracy, are a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of ancient artisans. They combined luxurious materials with technical virtuosity, showcasing the skill and refinement characteristic of elite Roman workshops. The use of banded agate, prized in antiquity for its protective properties and decorative appeal, was a favored gem for personal adornment across the Hellenistic and Roman world.  The meticulous goldsmithing and the modern conversion from earring to pendant ensure continued use while preserving the historical integrity of the piece.
