A Roman Gold Pendant from a “Pompeii-Style” Earring, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE
This object qualifies for free USA shipping and a flat rate fee of $75 if shipping internationally.
Originally crafted as a “Pompeii-style” earring, this elegant gold ornament has been adapted as a pendant for modern wear. It is formed from two large, hollow, molded domed shield elements arranged vertically and joined by a neat row of raised gold beading. The upper dome is lightly faceted from ancient wear, while the lower remains smooth and rounded.
The design reflects a popular Roman taste for light, hollow-form gold jewelry that created volume without excessive weight, a technique frequently seen in adornments from the Vesuvian region.

Dimensions: Length: 7/8 inch (2.3 cm), Width: 7/16 inch (1 cm)
Condition: Light crushing to the upper shield and two small holes at the back. Otherwise intact and in good condition. Mounted for wearing on a modern 18K yellow gold chain.
Provenance: K.S. collection, UK, formed in the 1970s -1980s, and then by inheritance to the present owner.
